An Autumn Camera Dump

Sooo if you live on the east coast you are probably running for cover from Hurricane Sandy.

Pretty much everything in the NY area is shut down.  School is closed Monday and Tuesday so I've been stuck in the house and I'm getting a little stir crazy.  We're all prepared over here so I decided since I finally have lots of free time i might as well put up a blog post (if my power doesn't go out first).

These past few weeks we have been all about Autumn at my school.  So my therapy sessions have centered around apples, pumpkins, witches, bats, and MONSTERS.  I so LOVE this time of year!!!

You can't have a discussion about Autumn without talking about Apples and Pumpkins... I got these two books last year and my kids LOVE them.  They are full of fun, interesting facts and vivid pictures.

I  used a ton of different activities to accompany these books.  We learned about pumpkin and apple life cycle (sequencing), pumpkin and apple sizes and colors (concepts), and we made caramel apples (following directions).

*I will put the links for all of these projects at the end of this post.

It wouldn't be October without mentioning two of my favorite books "Big Pumpkin" and "Go Away Big Green Monster".

We read Big Pumpkin several times last week.  We are working hard on our writing and retelling.  Finally on Friday, we role-played the story.

I tend to use "Go Away Big Green Monster" with my younger and non-verbal students.  It's a simple and easy to follow book and I love the use of color.

To all my fellow east coasters please stay safe in this storm..
