There Was A 1st Grader Who Swallowed...

Happy (almost) Easter!! Still more than a week till Spring Break :-( .. I have been working with some of my first graders on identifying an object by its parts. This has been such a difficult skill for them to grasp. Le Sigh...

I love Lucille Colandro's "There Was An Old Lady..." series, I think they are perfect for working on part vs. whole. Since it is close to Easter I decided to use "There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Chick".

My kiddos really loved this book. AND it seemed to help them grasp the part/whole concept that I have been drilling for soooo long. I used these great visuals that I downloaded from Boardmaker Share. They are no longer available but a similar set of visuals are located here.

As a follow-up.. I created the worksheets below and gave them cut out images of the parts of different objects. After looking at the parts they had to guess their object.
